Music of Healey Willan

16 pgs., 8.5" x 11"

This festive motet, which is the fifth movement of Healey Willan's Coronation Suite, HWC 057, for choir and orchestra, was composed in honor of Queen Elizabeth II. It was first performed in a nation-wide broadcast across Canada, on the Queen's Coronation Day, June 2, 1953, over the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. This version is scored for SSATB Choir, Divisi, with Optional STB Soli and Organ. The English text of this grand anthem is taken from the Tract “Veni sponsa Christi,” as well as from Psalm 45 and John 2.

TEXT
Come thou beloved of Christ, receive the crown
Which the Lord hath prepared for thee.
Alleluia.

Thou art fairer than the children of men:
Full of grace are thy lips,
Because God hath blessed thee forever.

Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity:
Wherefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee
With the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

And in thy majesty ride forth and prosper
Because of the word of truth and meekness and righteousness;
And thy right hand shall teach thee wondrous things.

Hearken, O daughter, and consider, incline thine ear;
So shall the King have pleasure in thy beauty:
For He is thy Lord God, and worship thou Him.

Grace be with you and mercy and peace:
From God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ,
The Son of the Father, in truth and love.
Amen. Alleluia.
