The Ludlow Brocatelle fabric is a classic Gothic design by F.J. Flanagan featuring a bold pineapple motif framed within a pointed ogee arch. Flanagan took the main features from an old Venetian velvet design, circa 1470. The pineapple, an historical symbol of hospitality and abundance, is given a stately liturgical context through its integration with medieval architectural forms and shimmering metallic thread.
Brocatelle fabrics are known for their firm hand and sculptural effect produced through a dense weave that gives the motifs a raised or embossed quality. Ludlow’s dimensionality makes it especially striking when used for larger applications like frontals, dossals, copes, or banners where structure and pattern clarity are important.
Ludlow is available in two regal colorways: Red/Gold and Ivory/Gold. Each version features metallic threads that catch the light, lending the fabric an elevated, ceremonial feel appropriate for feast days and solemnities.
