Mantelletta Sewing Pattern
Printed Sewing Pattern and Instructions
Includes Adult and Youth sizes
A mantelletta is a type of cape that falls to about knee level, has arm slits, a short collar and is closed at the neck with a cope clasp.
The Canons Regular of St. John Cantius wear a black Mantelletta as part of their religious habit. At the parishes that the canons serve, this elegant garment has been adapted for three additional functions.
• Catechumens wear white or ivory mantellettas at the Easter Vigil Mass, lending dignity and grace to the momentous event of their baptism.
• The men who carry the Canopy over the Blessed Sacrament wear red mantellettas during processions to draw focus to the location of the monstrance.
• In other processions often the torch bearers, or those who carry the bier for the statue of Blessed Mother will wear mantellettas.
This Mantelletta pattern includes instructions, and paper pattern pieces for both adult and youth sizes. The St. Martha’s Guild offers an excellent
linen weave polyester fabric that has a wonderful crispness, and beautiful drape, characteristics that are perfectly suited for mantellettas. The adult size will require 3 yards.
This pattern brought to you by the Saint Martha’s Guild an apostolate of the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius.
