Handmade Travel Stole
67" long, 2" wide; Vintage cotton/rayon, Petersham moire grosgrain ribbon, rayon chainette fringe, gilt spangles. Hand-washable if necessary.
Exclusively from Biretta Books, this handmade Travel Stole brings true dignity to priestly duties undertaken when away from the parish.
This reversible cream and purple stole is crafted with vintage Petersham grosgrain ribbons that carry the distinctive moire pattern in the weave. The stole is embroidered using an antique Cornely chain stitch machine - the embroidery workhorse of vestment makers for almost 150 years. Gilt spangles attached with the classic goldwork ‘smooth purl’ chips embellish the cream side with of the stole, and 2" chainette fringe finishes off each end. Much more substantial than a typical travel stole, this one is made to last while still being thin enough to be discretely folded. It has an added advantage of not holding on to sharp creases as other travel stoles are apt to do.
The encounter that a priest has with a soul in need of the eucharist, baptism, extreme unction, or confession, can be the most intense and important moment of a person’s life. A good travel stole should lend proper dignity to that moment.
